I have continued to immerse myself with students and teachers as
they launch and really begin to dig into the craft of narrative writing. I have
seen children who initially struggled to get words on a page secretly try to
write in their booklets during instructional time, not wanting to go to recess
so they could finish a scene from their story, storytelling and
acting out their stories as a way to put themselves in the shoes of their characters. Kids
are loving to write, loving what they are noticing other authors use in their
craft as narrative writers and trying it on in their own pieces. They’re
noticing craft moves in the stories their peers are writing and supporting
them with next step suggestions really focused on the craft of a narrative
writer. They love writing and all the doors writing is opening up for them!
